Happy Easter

Hello! Happy Easter to you!

It’s holiday time again, and we all have an extra few days to spend time relaxing and creating cool new projects. Alas, I think I am a bit too old for the traditional Easter Egg Hunt, and this year will have to settle to making and creating. Here are a few cool easter designs we will be making this weekend.

The first is a design from the talented Kit Palaskas for A Pair and a Spare, an adult version of the egg hunt, a egg pinata! It’s a simple project you can do in front of a good film and you may already have the pieces you need at home. Follow the instructions here.

These adorable bunny bags are the perfect easter treat and we made them at You Crafty Bastard last week! The girls loved them,  and it was a great one for an evening. All you need is felt, a scrap of fabric and some embroidery thread. Mer Mag was the lovely creator of this project and you can follow the instructions here.

bunny4 How adorable is this crochet bunny! Have you heard of the website Raverly? It’s a great website where you can share your crochet patterns with others and buy new patterns too! That’s where I found this adorable bunny by Lion Brand Barn. This pattern is free too and can be found at the following link.bunny3Last but not least, is this very cute, tiny weeny, bunny rabbit. Think pom poms, crepe paper, tiny arms and legs and tiny flowers.
bunny1Make sure you share your pieces with your loved ones! And share your pictures with us too! Just tag #youcraftybastard on our Instagram at @teaspoonofsugaremporium

We love to see what you’re making!

Happy Easter!

The Easter Special is here all you crafters and roll up to make your own adorable felt bunny bag!

Tonight from 6 o’clock you will learn techniques of using felt, simple hand sewing and embroidery too. Spoilt for choice and with Easter eggs, we will nibble on chocolate, drink our cider (it’s BYO) and try not to prick ourselves too many times. Don’t worry this class is for beginners and most of our group will be new to craft!

Plus, did we tell you we are hosting the night in the coolest new warehouse gallery in the city, Era Gallery (19-23 Wellington St, Chippendale). It’s only a 5 minute walk from Central Station (towards Broadway and George St) and it overlooks the city.

All welcome! Online ticket sales have now closed! But if you send a sneaky email to teaspoonofsugaremporium@gmail.com then we might be able to squeeze you in!

Nation State Presents the Rob Ryan Collection

In spirit of You Crafty Bastard, Teaspoon of Sugar Emporium have gone above and beyond to find the most radical designs possible. A few weeks ago, I landed myself in the humble city of Perth for business pursuits and I stumbled into the underground indie scene that spread through the inner city suburb of Northbridge. An excess of delightful, funky hip shops stocking the latest wares and trends of local and international designers flooded the terrace lopped streets and I found myself in a boulevard of wonderful desires.

These desires soon turned to needs as I found a stellar design by a swanky man named ROB RYAN. With You Crafty Bastard in mind, I fell in love. I fell deep and straight down, until I returned home to Sydney and finally could not live without this groovy piece to add to my collection. I mean, if everyone else is doing, who is to stop me from being square.

Mad hatter style, I found a snazzy website that stocked Rob Ryan. Who doesn’t shop online these days are so far behind the eight ball, plus I love the mystery of a parcel arriving at my door. In my pursuit I landed on a killer stationary website called NATIONSTATE. Being a ridiculous, overzealous and overexpended stationary fanatic, I was glowing and shiny with excitement for a decent site that stocked brands like Moleskine, as well as specialised stationary designs, homeware products and every heavenly stationary delight known to man.

Rob Ryan’s collection of ceramic plates are whimsical, cultural art pieces which you can eat off, store up high away from pesky, playful kittens and stare at for days because they are just so damn cool! The London based designer has talent, and sure is making great impressions in the international cool kids club.

June’s installment of You Crafty Bastard sees us with a rad set up of cool ceramics to design. Think plates, bowls, teapots and teacups. There’s nothing like customising items you use daily and upscaling them with a funky cool emblem that’s personalised and you get to take home to your parents (just like in kindergarten).

There will be treats, sweets, beverages, good conversation and groovy music! Nothing like a sneaky mid-week fiesta to curve your spirit and unleash your wildest creativity.

It’s also very sad to say, but this will  be the very last You Crafty Bastard held at Dear Pluto. Unfortunately, Dear Pluto will be closing their doors and we will be relocating our events.

So you want to be a cool cat and join us? Well read below my friend for what you need to know.

Tees and Tote Printing    and     Crochet Night!

You Crafty Bastard

Oh what fun was had at the second of Teaspoon of Sugar Emporium’s You Crafty Bastard Craft Spectacular.

Ladies and gents gathered together and we designed sweet Totes and Tees and seriously had a sick time. Drinks were flowing, aiding the design process, nearly damaging fingers with the blades used to cut designs, but all in the fun of screen printing.

Held at the lovely and ultra cool vintage store in Surry Hills, Dear Pluto, we were in a mystical drunken haze of funky creativity and vintage inspiration. The hip owner Emma was kind enough to take some happy snaps for us and all photography is courtesy of her. How kind!

You Crafty Bastard is held at the start of every month, so jot it down in your diary! You can keep posted here!

If you love vintage as much as we do, make sure you pop along to Dear Pluto some time and say hi to Emma! She would love to meet you! Check out here website here!

You Crafty Bastard

Like the Breakfast Club, minus Molly Ringwald, plus a crochet hook, some ladies, some wine, some cheese and some crafts.

Teaspoon of Sugar will be hosting their first Craft Club night on the 27th of March at Dear Pluto in Surry Hills.

We shall get together monthly. Discuss crafts. Make. Create. Eat foods. Drink tea, wine, coffee, which ever you may prefer.

If you have ever wanted to learn to crochet, or wondered when did your grandma started well it was probably around the ripe age of 20. To add to the spinster look, yes I do own a cat. And we are going to have a grand time!
